Sudan calls off launch of $1bn sugar plant

Sudan has called off the launch of a $1bn sugar plant, delaying the industrial project which was aimed at reducing the country's dependence on sugar imports.

President Omar Hassan al-Bashir was meant to inaugurate the White Nile Sugar Co on 5 April, however, the government delayed the launch citing emergency technical reasons.
Earlier, Sudanese industry minister Abdel-Wahab Mohammed Osman submitted his resignation holding himself responsible for the delay. However, the President refused to acce
