Two years ago, the plantation areas of Hainan bananas decreased significantly due to diseases. The overall growing area dropped to 20,000 hectares.
This year, a cold wave hit the Guangdong and Guangxi provinces, which severely impacted the banana production volume in these two regions. Therefore, it is expected that the banana price this year will be at least 2 times more expensive than that of last year. Wholesale prices can increase over 7 Yuan/kilo, which is rarely seen in recent history.
