Australia calls for restrictions on Vegemite sales to tackle illegal alcohol making

The government of Australia is calling on certain communities to limit the sale of Vegemite, which is being used in illegally making home-made alcohol.

People across certain communities including those where alcohol is banned, are purchasing Vegemite jars in bulk for alcohol making.

The Telegraph reported that a person died in 2010 after consuming high amounts of Vegemite-based homebrew.

Vegemite was first produced in 1922 as an alternative to Marmite.
