Black cherry brioche pudding

Ingredients

400g loaf brioche, cut into 2.5cm-thick slices
3 eggs, at room temperature
1 1/4 cups caster sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup pouring cream
425g can pitted black cherries, well drained
whipped cream, optional, to serve

Method

Step 1
1 Grease a 6cm deep, 14cm x 24cm (7-cup capacity) baking dish. Cut each brioche slice in half crossways and arrange standing upright in dish.
